24th August 2017 - Update on arrests & photo-call TODAY
Things are certainly hotting up around here! As you may have read in the local press, there have been a couple of major developments in the incinerator saga:
Sofa party ends in arrests
Our peaceful sofa party blockade at Javelin Park ended in 4 arrests on Tuesday (myself included) after 6 of us sat across the new site entrance UBB had improvised that morning due to our camp blocking the main entrance. We caused a traffic jam of 8 cement lorries! Never let it be said that a few people can't make a difference.
Please note that UBB created this new entranceway in breach of their planning conditions - we checked with the Council planning department. We were charged with obstruction of the highway, although it's doubtful this will stick. We were held for several hours at the Quedgeley police station but treated well and were all home safe by 9pm.
Local coverage here and here. [1] (NB it seems GCC are still peddling misleading figures about savings and still, astonishingly, claiming that the incinerator supports recycling.)
Stonehouse High Street in peril due to incinerator cabling - PHOTO CALL
GCC has just pronounced that Stonehouse High Street will, after all, be the route taken by cables running power from the incinerator to the local grid along the B4008. See press here. This has local businesses in despair and fearing closure as they've had multiple roadworks in the last couple of years already and it's a major deterrent to custom. [2]
County Councillor for Stonehouse Lesley Williams has put a shout out for a community photo call outside the Stonehouse Town Council offices TODAY at2.55pm. If you can make it please come, and bring placards if you have them.
Let's make it a real show of community solidarity.
Love to all and see you there!
